Solar Panel Based Charger And Small LED Lamp

Description You can save on your electricity bills by switching to alternative sources of power. The photovoltaic module or solar panel described here is capable of delivering a power of 5 watts. At full sunlight, the solar panel outputs 16.5V. It can deliver a current of 300-350 mA. Using it you can charge three types of batteries: lead acid, Ni-Cd and Li-ion. The lead-acid batteries are commonly used in emergency lamps and UPS. The working of the circuit is simple. The output of the solar panel is fed via diode 1N5402 (D1), which acts as a polarity guard and protects the solar panel. An ammeter is connected in series between diode D1 and fuse to measure the current flowing during charging of the batteries. As shown in Fig. 1, we have used an analogue multimeter in 500mA range. Diode D2 is used for protection against reverse polarity in case of wrong connection of the lead-acid battery. Charger circuit diagram: When you connect wrong polarity, the fuse will blow up. For charging a l...

Reverse Lamp Dimmer Circuit for Simulating Sunrise Effect

The post explains a simple automatic mains lamp reverse dimmer circuit which can be used to imitate a sunrise effect. A sunrise simulator lamp is a modified version of a dimmer circuit. 120V AC lamp is connected to a bridge rectifier that supplies DC though there is no functional difference as the lamp is passive and being resistive in nature there is no operational problem. The circuit is made such that the lamp illuminates over a period of 20 minutes. The lamp is connected in series with a N channel MOSFET. Here in this case IRF 640 having a V -DS of 200V and I of 11Amp at 100oC or an IRF 740 having V-DS of 400V and Id of 6.3Amp at 100oC is recommended. However, for a 120V supply IRF 740 is a better choice. A current limiting resistance is employed in series with the lamp. The lamp has a drawing current of 500mA that determines the wattage of the current limiting resistance. LM324 a quad OP-Amp is employed for the multiple stages required to build the circuit. A triang...

Low Cost Sunrise Lamp

In this circuit, a 120VAC lamp is slowly illuminated over a approximate 20 minute period. The bridge rectifier supplies 120 DC to the MOSFET and 60 watt lamp. A 6.2K, 5 watt resistor and zener diode is used to drop the voltage to 12 volts DC for the circuit power. The bridge rectifier should be rated at 200 volts and 5 amps or more. In operation, a 700 Hz triangle waveform is generated at pin 1 of the LM324 and a slow rising voltage is obtained at pin 8. These two signals are compared at pins 12 and 13 to produce a varying duty cycle rectangular waveform at pin 14, which controls the MOSFET and brightness of the 60 watt lamp. Sunrise Lamp Circuit Diagram:  When power is applied, the lamp will start to illuminate within a minute or so, and will slowly brighten to full intensity in about 20 minutes. You can make that longer or shorter with adjustments to the 270K resistor at pin 9. The 2.2 ohm resistor and .015uF cap connected to the lamp serve to supress RFI. The diode at pin 9 and ...

Fog Lamp Sensor Circuit Diagram

Fog Lamp Sensor Circuit diagram . For several years now, a rear fog lamp has been mandatory for trailers and caravans in order to improve visibility under foggy conditions. Fog Lamp Sensor Circuit diagram : Fog Lamp Sensor Circuit Diagram When this fog lamp is switched on, the fog lamp of the pulling vehicle must be switched off to avoid irritating reflections. For this purpose, a mechanical switch is now built into the 13-way female connector in order to switch off the fog lamp of the pulling vehicle and switch on the fog lamp of the trailer or caravan. For anyone who uses a 7-way connector, this switching can also be implemented electronically with the aid of the circuit illustrated here. Here a type P521 optocoupler detects whether the fog lamp of the caravan or trailer is connected. If the fog lamp is switched on in the car, a current flows through the caravan fog lamp via diodes D1 and D2. This causes the LED in the optocoupler to light up, with the result that the phototransisto...

Automatic Night Lamp with Morning Alarm

This circuit automatically turns on a night lamp when bedroom light is switched off. The lamp remains ‘on’ until the light sensor senses daylight in the morning. A super-bright white LED is used as the night lamp. It gives bright and cool light in the room. When the sensor detects the daylight in the morning, a melodious morning alarm sounds. The circuit is powered from a standard 0-9V transformer. Diodes D1 through D4 rectify the AC voltage and the resulting DC voltage is smoothed by C1. Regulator IC 7806 gives regulated 6V DC to the circuit. A battery backup is provided to power the circuit when mains fails. When mains supply is available, the 9V rechargeable battery charges via diode D5 and resistor R1 with a reasonably constant current. In the event of mains failure, the battery automatically takes up the load without any delay. Diode D5 prevents the battery from discharging backwards following the mains failure and diode D6 provides current path from the battery. Circuit diagram ...

12 Volt DC Fluorescent Lamp Circuit Diagram

A number of people have been unable to find the transformer needed for the Black Light project, so I looked around to see if I could find a fluorescent lamp driver that does not require any special components. I finally found one in Electronics Now. Here it is. It uses a normal 120 to 6V stepdown transformer in reverse to step 12V to about 350V to drive a lamp without the need to warm the filaments. Parts: C1 100uf 25V Electrolytic Capacitor C2,C3 0.01uf 25V Ceramic Disc Capacitor C4 0.01uf 1KV Ceramic Disc Capacitor R1 1K 1/4W Resistor R2 2.7K 1/4W Resistor Q1 IRF510 MOSFET U1 TLC555 Timer IC T1 6V 300mA Transformer LAMP 4W Fluorescent Lamp MISC Board, Wire, Heatsink For Q1 Notes: Q1 must be installed on a heat sink. A 240V to 10V transformer will work better then the one in the parts list. The problem is that they are hard to find. This circuit can give a nasty (but not too dangerous) shock. Be careful around the output leads.

Simple Fluorescent Lamp Inverter Circuit Diagram

This is the Simple Fluorescent Lamp Inverter Circuit Diagram. This inverter is very easy to construct, reliable, and even powerful enough to light up a 15W florescent tube (if you cool your transistor well). The only hard-to-find piece of this baby is the so-called yellow inverter transformer. It's a miniature high frequency transformer that has a 25mm x 20mm x 5mm ferrite core, 30 turns of primary, 15 turns of feedback, and 250 turns of secondary all concentric, wound on plastic frame than wrapped with a 'yellow' adhesive tape. If you can't find it in your local electronic shops then search for old portable rechargeble florescent lanterns since they have at least one yellow inverter. Of course you can wind a handmade transformer which would do the same but it is a very difficult task when you don't have an original to inspire and it will still need an appropriate ferrite core. 120 VAC Lamp Dimmer Circuit

A lamp dimmer circuit can be conceived in so many ways but the challenge is cost effectiveness and reliability. Thyristors (or SCRs) and TRIACs are the major components associated with the lamp dimmer circuit. Direct on line ( 120 VAC ) dimmers can be configured either by two TRIACs connected anti parallel or it can be configured by 4 number of SCRs in the same topology for a full wave phase control. But this is a costly methodology. The full wave phase control topology, as shown in the circuit was found in a RCA (Radio Corporation of America) power circuit book,1969. In fact, so far as power circuit is concerned, this is one of the cheapest effective typologies. A full wave rectifier bridge is being employed in series with the AC line along with a SCR, the rectified AC also had its zero crossing. The frequency of which is double that of the supply line and hence commutation of SCR at its natural zero is possible. Apparently it may appear that the SCR is working on a DC l...

Automatic Lamp Control with Light Sensitive Switch

The above circuit is a light sensitive automatic switch which functions in the absence of light. We are using IC 4060 in this circuit which works as an oscillator and the generated signal is applied to the base of T4 transistor.Phototransistor T3 is in conduction by existence of light and it keeps the T5 transistor’s base at ground potential. When no light reaches the phototransistor, it gets in insulation. T3 reaches positive potential through 22kohm. T4 and T5 both gets in conductance. The oscillator signal reaches the optic coupler and lamp(s) shines.
