Schematic 10 Way Electronic Switch

This is a 10 way electronic latching switch using just two switches. Each output can be latched on and off independently. 10 Way Electronic Switch Circuit Diagram Notes The schematic is shown above, and two switches S1 and S2 are used to control the outputs. The main work is done by U2 a CMOS4017 decade counter divider IC. At switch on, C1 is quickly charged by R4 and a brief reset pulse is applied to to the reset pins of both U1 and U2. This results in U1, a 7 segment display display driver and decade counter showing "zero" on the 7 segment display and pin 3 (which is the output zero) of the 4017 becoming high. Each time S1 is pressed the clock input of U2 is incremented, by one count and the display and 4017 will cycle through all 10 outputs. A separate reset switch is not provided as the display reads the currently selected output. When the 4017 is on a particular output, for example zero, then the controlled circuit can be turned on or off using switch S2. To latch the ou...

Touch Switch II

This circuit uses a 555 timer as the bases of the touch switch. You can learn more about 555 timers in the Learning section on my site. When the plate is touched the 555 timer is triggered and the output on pin 3 goes high turning on the LED and the buzzer for a certain period of time. The time that the LED and the buzzer is on is based on the values of the capacitor and resistor connected to pin 6 & 7. The 10M resistor on pin 2 causes the the circuit to be very sensitive to the touch. Touch Switch II Circuit Diagram

Simple Remote Control Mains Switch

As the only electronics engineer in my  =family and circle of friends, it is some-times not possible to evade an appeal for help. This time the request came from a friendly elderly lady in a retirement home. In her room the light switch by the door  and the pull cord above the bed operate the light fitting on the ceiling in the middle of the room. However, she would prefer that her standing lamp was operated  by these switches instead, since she does not actually have a light fitting mounted  on the ceiling. This standing lamp has an  on/of f switch in the power cord and is  plugged into a power point. However, it  stands rather far from the bed so that she  always has to find her way in the dark. A  wireless operated power point is not really  a consideration, because it is just a matter of time before the remote is lost. Or maybe not?  Simple Remote Control Mains Switch Circuit Diagram : Behold a feasible circuit. Buy a wireless p...

555 Timer Voltage Controlled Switch

In this circuit the 555 timer is used in a novel way, as a voltage controlled switch. The old and omnipresent NE555 can be very good at something it was not meant for: driving relays or other loads up to 200 mA. The picture shows an example circuit: if the input level rises over 2/3 of the supply voltage - it will turn on the relay, and the relay will stay on until the level at the input drops below one third of the supply voltage. If the relay and D1 were connected between pin 3 and ground, the relay would be activated when the input voltage drops below one third, and deactivated when the input voltage goes over two thirds of the supply voltage. It is also a nice advantage that the input requires only about 1 uA, which is something bipolar transistors can't compete with. (This high impedance input must not be left open.) A large hysteresis makes the circuit immune to noise. The output (pin 3) can only be either high or low (voltage-wise), and it changes its state almost instantenou...

Energy Saving Switch Schematic Diagram

Lights do not always need to be on at full power. Often it would be useful to be able to turn off the more powerful lights to achieve softer illumination, but this requires an installation with two separately-switch-able circuits, which is not always available.   Energy-Saving Switch Circuit Image  If the effort of chasing out channels and replastering for a complete new circuit is too much, then this circuit might help. Normal operation of the light switch gives gentle illumination (LA1). For more light, simply turn the switch off and then immediately (within 1 s) on again. The circuit returns to the gentle light set-ting when switched off for more than 3 s. There is no need to replace the light switch with a dual version: simply insert this circuit between switch and lamp. Automatic TV Lighting Switch

The author is the happy owner of a television set with built-in Ambilight lighting in the living room. Unfortunately, the television set in  the bedroom lacks this feature. To make up for this, the author attached a small lamp to the wall to provide background lighting, This makes  watching television a good deal more enjoyable, but it ’s  not the ideal solution. Although the TV set can be  switched off with the remote  control, you still have to get out of bed to switch off the lamp. Circuit diagram : Automatic TV Lighting Switch Circuit Diagram Consequently, the author devised this automatic lighting switch that switches the background light on and off along with the T V set. The entire circuit is fitted in series with the mains cable of the TV set, so there’s no need to tinker with the set. It works as follows: R1 senses  the current drawn by the TV  set. It has a maximum value  of 50 mA in standby mode,  rising  to around ...

AC Mains Bistable Switch

This AC mains-operated bistable  switch turns on or turns off a  device using a miniature neon  lamp and a few discrete components.  This switch can be used for control pan-els, appliances and lighting controls.  A push-to-on switch is used to  light up the neon lamp. The light emit-ted by the neon lamp, in turn, enables  the switching action of the circuit. Use  of a 555 timer wired for bistable operation makes the circuit act as a bistable  switch. Circuit diagram : AC Mains Bistable Switch Circuit Diagram The neon lamp (NL1) and the  push-to-on switch (S1) are directly connected to 230V AC mains. The 12V DC  supply for timer 555 (IC1) is derived  from 230V AC mains through capacitive dropper C1, resistor R1 and a 12V  zener diode. IC1 works as a flip-flop  circuit, with the signal at its output  pin 3 toggling every time it receives a  pulse at its pins 2 and 6. The operation of the circuit is simple. When you press switch S1 momentarily, the neon lamp glows, making  phototran...

Sound Activated Switch II

With this sound activated switch, control by sound may be very useful, not just on a robot but also for a bit of home automation, for example a sound-activated light responding to a knock on the door or a hand clap. The light will be automatically switched off after a few seconds. An alternative use is burglar protection — if someone wants to open the door or break something the light will come on, suggesting that someone’s at home. The circuit can work from any 5–12 VDC regulated power supply provided a relay with the suitable coil voltage is used. Sound activated switch circuit diagram When you first connect the supply voltage to the sound activated switch circuit, the relay will be energised because of the effect of capacitor C2. Allow a few seconds for the relay to be switched off. You can increase or decrease the ‘on’ period by changing the value of C2. A higher value results in a longer ‘on’ period, and vice versa. Do not use a value greater than 47μF. Biasing resistor R1 det...

A Close Look of Isolators or Disconnector Switch

Isolators are provided for isolation from live parts for the purpose of maintenance. Isolators are located at either side of the circuit breaker. Isolators are operated under no load. Isolator does not have any rating for current breaking or current making. Isolators are interlocked with circuit breakers. Types of Isolators are: Central rotating, horizontal swing Centre-Break Vertical swing Pantograph type NOTE: Isolator always operate in no load condition. If it will operate in on load a hude sparking will occur which will lead to burning of contacts of isolator.

Laser Controlled ON OFF switch

This Laser Controlled ON/OFF switch circuit is built around a 555 timer using very few components. Since the circuit is very simple, even a novice can easily build it and use it as a controlling device. A laser pointer, now easily available in the market, can be used to operate this device. This circuit has been tested in operational conditions from a distance of 500 meters and was found to work satisfactorily, though it can be controlled from still longer distances. . Laser Controlled ON/OFF switch Circuit diagram : Laser Controlled ON/OFF Switch Circuit Diagram Aiming (aligning) the laser beam exactly on to the LDR is a practical problem. The circuit is very useful in switching on/off a fan at night without getting off the bed. It can also be used for controlling a variety of other devices like radio or music system. The limitation is that the circuit is operational only in dark or dull lit environments. By focusing the laser beam on LDR1 the connected gadget can be activated throug...

Frontdoor light switch based on local sunset sunrise

I have a couple of front door LED lights which I would like to switch on automatically during the evening/night. The two conventional methods that are commonly available had their disadvantages: A timer switch is the easiest and cheapest solution, but doesn’t take into account day light savings. Besides that, in Einhoven, the Netherlands where I live in december the sun sets around 16:30 while in June it doesn’t get dark before 22:00. A simple timer doesn’t take that into account either. Since you only want the lights on when it gets dark, instead of time you can also use a light sensor to distinguish day and night. You have these front door lights that have this built in. The problem that I had with these devices is that they start bouncing (‘flickering’) around sunset/sunrise. They constantly turn on/off which causes damage to the LED lights I was using. This cost me already several expensive led lights. [ ]

Toggle switch with Infra Red IR

Toggle switch in this article is a series of toggle switches that are controlled by infrared light. The series toggle switch is made from a combination of data flip-flop CD4013 2 units. Receiver circuit of the infrared light signals arranged with infrared receiver as found on television remote receiver. Infrared signal from remote is used as clock signals and data to the data flip-flop first. then the second flip-flop data set as a toggle flip-flop toggle the output signal is used to drive the relay. for more details can be seen in thethe following image . Series Toggle Switch With Infra Red (IR) that is required to supply voltage range of 12VDC and the output of Toggle Switch With Infra Red (IR) is dapt used to turn on the lights or other electronic devices with DC or AC voltage source. Series Toggle Switch With Infra Red (IR) was isolated from the load that is placed for use as the final relay.

Overheat Detector Alarm Switch Circuit Diagram

Description At the heart of this overhead detector (fire alarm) circuit is a precision integrated temperature sensor type LM35 (IC1), which provides an accurately linear and directly proportional output in mV, over the zero to +155 degrees C temperature range. This can be used as part of fire smoke detectors but do not use it as a home fire alarm system. The LM35 develops an output voltage of 10 mV/K change in measured temperature. Designed to draw a minimal current of its own, the LM35 has very low self heating in still air.  Here the output of the LM35 is applied to the non-inverting input of a comparator wired around a CA3130 opamp (IC2). A voltage divider network R3-P1 sets the threshold voltage, at the inverting input of the opamp. The threshold voltage determines the adjustable temperature trip level at which the circuit is activated. When the measured temperature exceeds the user-defined level, the comparator pulls its output High to approx. 2.2 V causing transistor T1 to b...

Earth Switch

Earthing switches are used for earthing and short-circuiting disconnected sections of substation or plant. They are designed for no-load switching and are able to disconnect low charging currents. The charging current is due to overlap of conductor during transmission. The term over lap means that during transmission some times it is necessary to cross one line over the other. For example suppose one transmission is from A to B and other from C to D. During transmission AB will overlapped CD line. Suppose we have to perform maintenance operation on AB line, so we have to close the breaker first than the isolator. Although breaker and isolator are opened voltage (of curse less than the supply voltage, but still dangerous ) will still in this line due to this overlap. The voltage induced due to flux linkage of CD on AB. When it will get a close path current will flow and this is harmful for the work man. So we use earth switch to ground this ch...
