Rolling Shutter Motor Control Circuits Diagram

An electrically operated rolling shutter usually has a standard control panel with a three-position switch: up, down and stop. If you would like to automate the opening and closing with a time controlled switch, a few additional wires will have to be connected. Typically, the controls are implemented as indicated in the schematic ‘Normal Situation’. If this is indeed the case, then you can see in ‘New Situation’ how the shutter can be automated with a timer. There is only one method to determine the actual schematic of your control circuit, and that is to open the control box and using an ohmmeter, pencil and paper to check out and draw the circuit. Make sure you turn the power off first though! Connect a 230-V relay (with both the contacts and the coil rated 230 VAC) to the timer.   The changeover switch between automatic and manual control needs to be rated 230 VAC as well and may not be a hazard for the user. The relay and switch are preferably fitted in a plastic mains adapter e...

Motor Turn Stall Detector Circuit Diagram

In single phase AC induction motors, often used in fridges and washing machines, a start winding is used during the starting phase. When the motor has reached a certain speed, this winding is turned off again. The start winding is slightly out of phase to the run winding. The motor will only start turning when the current through this winding is out of phase to that of the run winding. The phase difference is normally provided by placing a capacitor of several µF in series with the start winding. When the motor reaches a minimum speed, a centrifugal switch turns off the start winding.  The circuit diagram doesn’t show a centrifugal switch; instead it has a triac that is turned on during the staring phase. For clarity, the series capacitor isn’t shown in the diagram. Once the motor turns it will continue to do so as long as it isn’t loaded too much. When it has to drive too heavy a load it will almost certainly stall. A large current starts to flow (as the motor no longer generates ...

Wireless Stepper Motor Controllers Circuit Diagram

Here is a low-cost and simple wireless stepper motor controller using infrared signals. Using this circuit you can control the stepper motor from a distance of up to four meters. The circuit comprises transmitter and receiver sections. The communication between the transmitter and receiver sections is achieved through infrared signals. Wireless Stepper Motor Controllers Circuit Diagram In the transmitter section, timer NE555 ICs (IC1 and IC2) are configured as astable multivibrators with frequencies of around 1 Hz and 38 kHz, respectively. The output of IC1 is given to reset pin 4 of IC2, so the 38kHz carrier signal is modulated by 1Hz modulating signal. The modulated signal from pin 3 of IC2 is transmitted by the infrared LED.  Resistor R5 limits the current through the IR LED. The transmitted signal is sensed by IR receiver module TSOP1738 (IC6) of the receiver section and its output at pin 3 is used as clocks for dual flip-flop 74LS74 Ics (IC3 and IC4), which are configured as a...

PBL3717A Motor Stepper Driver

This motor stepper driver electronic project is designed using the PBL3717 motor driver manufactured by ST Microelectronics . The PBL3717A motor stepper driveris a monolithic IC which controls and drives one phase of a bipolar stepper motor with chopper control of the phase current. Current levels may be selected in three steps by means of two logic inputs which select one of three current comparators. PBL3717A Motor Stepper Driver Circuit Diagram When both of these inputs are high the device is disabled. A separate logic input controls the direction of current flow. A monostable, programmed by an external RC network, sets the current decay time. The output current for this project is up to 1A from 10 up to 46 volt motor supply . The logic inputs I0 and I1 set at three different levels the amplitude of the current flowing in the motor winding . A high level on the "PHASE" logic input sets the direction of that current from output A to output B and a low level from output B to...

H bridge Control the Direction of Rotation for DC motor Circuit Diagram

This circuit can control the direction of a DC motor., It has many applications that are necessary to operate a motor in both directions, clockwise and counter-clockwise (forward and backward). One way to accomplish this is to start the engine in a circuit arrangement of transistors called H-bridge. H bridge is an electronic circuit which enables a voltage is applied across a load in either direction. This circuit is often used in robotics and other applications to allow DC motors to become bi-directional. Thus, the bases of the transistors are grounded. Hence Q3 and Q4 are turned on, Q1 and Q2 are turned off. The voltages at both terminals of the motor is the same and thus the engine is switched off. Similarly...

Converting a DCM Motor

We recently bought a train set made by a renowned company and just couldn’t resist looking inside the locomotive. Although it did have an electronic decoder, the DCM motor was already available 35 (!) years ago. It is most likely that this motor is used due to financial constraints, because Märklin (as you probably guessed) also has a modern 5-pole motor as part of its range. Incidentally, they have recently introduced a brushless model.  The DCM motor used in our locomotive is still an old-fashioned 3-pole series motor with an electromagnet to provide motive power. The new 5-pole motor has a permanent magnet. We therefore wondered if we couldn’t improve the driving characteristics if we powered the field winding separately, using a bridge rectifier and a 27 Ω current limiting resistor. This would effectively create a permanent magnet. The result was that the driving characteristics improved at lower speeds, but the initial acceleration remained the same. But a constant 0.5 A flows...

Simplest Single Phase Preventor Circuit for Three Phase Motor Potection

For a 3-phase induction motor,Lit is necessary that all the three phases of supply are present while it is on load. When any one of the fuses goes out, or a phase is missing, the motor will continue to run with two phases only, but it will start drawing a huge current for the same load. This high current may ruin the motor, unless switched off immediately. A single phase preventor circuit avoids such a mishap. With this circuit the motor will not run, unless all the three phases are present. In a 3-phase supply, the voltages are 120 degrees apart from each other. Thus the addition of three phases gives zero voltage. lf any one of the phase goes, voltage present at the summing point equals half the line voltage. ‘ In this circuit, the three phases (R, Y, B) are connected to line neutral, which in turn is connected to the ground of the   circuit. When all three phases are present, voltage at point D is zero. So potential at pin 3 of 1C 741 is also zero, but voltage at pin 2 is ne...

DC Motor Controller Circuit with NE555

A simple DC motor controller circuit with NE555 is shown here. several DC motor speed control circuits are revealed here however this can be the first one using NE555 timer IC. additionally to controlling the motors speed its direction of rotation will be also modified using this circuit. A PWM circuit primarily based on timer NE555 is that the heart of this circuit. NE555 is wired as an astable multivibrator whose duty cycle will be adjusted by varying the POT R1. The output of IC1 is coupled to the base of transistor Q1 that drives the motor according to the PWM signal available at its base. Higher the duty cycle the typical voltage across motor will be high which ends in higher motor speed and vice versa. modification of DC motor direction is attained using the DPDT switch S1 that on application simply toggles the polarity applied to the motor.

Simple DC Motor PWM Speed Control

Description The 555 is ubiquitous and can be used as simple PWM speed control Circuit Diagram Circuit Explaination:   The 555 Ic is wired as an astable and the frequency is constant and independent of the duty cycle, as the total resistance (R charge + R discharge, notice the diode) is constant and equal to 22Kohm (givin a frequency of about 1Khz, notice the hum). When the potentiomenter is all up, the Rcharge resistance is 1,0 Kohm (the diode prevents the capacitor to charge through the second potentiometer section and the other 1,0 Kohm resistor) , and Rdischarge is 21 Kohm, giving a 5% on duty cycle and a 1Khz frequency. When the potentiomenter is all down, the Rcharge resistance is 21,0 Kohm (the diode prevents the capacitor to charge through the second potentiometer section and the other 1,0 Kohm resistor) , and Rdischarge is 1 Kohm, giving a 95% on duty cycle and a 1Khz frequency. When the potentiomenter is at 50% , the Rcharge resistance is 11,0 Kohm (the diode prevents the ...

Two Basic Motor Speed Controllers

Here are two simple 12V DC motor speed controllers that can be built for just a few dollars. They exploit the fact that the rotational speed of a DC motor is directly proportional to the mean value of its supply voltage. The first circuit shows how variable voltage speed control can be obtained via a potentiometer (VR1) and compound emitter follower (Q1 & Q2). With this arrangement, the motor’s DC voltage can be varied from 0V to about 12V. This type of circuit gives good speed control and self-regulation at medium to high speeds but very poor low-speed control and slow starts. The second circuit uses a switchmode technique to vary motor speed. Circuit diagram: Fig.1: a very simple motor speed controller based on a compound emitter follower (Q1 & Q2). Here a quad NOR gate (IC1) acts as a 50Hz astable multivibrator that generates a rectangular output. The mark-space ratio of the rectangular waveform is fully variable from 20:1 to 1:20 via potentiometer VR1. The output from the ...
